Tero's seminar was a stunning insight into marketing / psychology / and the methods to approach and execute sales in today's portrait market.
I persuaded two fellow professional photographers to come along for the two days, and although it is a large commitment in terms of time more than anything else, both thought that it was worth much, much more than they ever thought before they set off .......

We have been having a great year. I have been working on the book; I have a TV interview this afternoon! I have photographed 66 families to date with about 10 more on the books to be photographed.

Just wanted to update you on our portrait success.
We went to the Curves gyms in the hunter valley, about 15 gyms in all.
They were very enthusiastic about the venture.
We were the prize for their "Surviver" promotion.
If the ladies stayed on the good island for 6 weeks then they got our $250 dollar gift certificate.
This was done up in a white box with purple tissue and a purple ribbon with a letter from curves.
It looked smick.
Curves had 1600 members register so we thought we might have to send out 800 to 900 certificates.
We actually sent out 1487 boxes and we had in excess of 500 members register with us. our phone did not stop for 2 weeks. we started shooting the portraits at the end of September at locations around Newcastle, beach, parks and studio. By Christmas we had shot 360 portraits.
Jude and I want to thank you both for your generous approach to sharing your ideas. It has helped us immensely.
For the 1st time in 15 years we don't have an overdraft.

Thanks Tero for sharing your knowledge and portrait wisdom through
your seminars and DVDs. To say that it changed our entire portrait
business might seem like hyperbole, but it's true.
Last summer, after attending the seminar, I adopted the "Tero"
pricing model and finally got the distinction between portraits and weddings and the speculative nature of the portrait business. That was a huge "Aha!" for me and it led to an entirely different approach on the way I priced my sessions, individual prints and the creation of packages.
And this year, we've embarked on our own charity book project in our community and the results have been extraordinary! Two months into the project, we've already booked 45 sessions (with four months to go to our goal of 100 sessions -- I believe we'll not only make it, we'll go beyond it!).
The project has given clients a "feel good" reason to call us, have their portrait made and in the process our business has grown by literally dozens of sessions compared to what we did in 2007!
If you're thinking about going to the seminar -- don't even think about it, just go. Take copious notes, buy the DVD set and prepare to have your portrait business changed beyond all recognition (for the good!).

I went last year in San Diego for Tero's Seminar. it was one of the most informing and interesting seminars I have attended . Tero was so open and honest about sharing his ups and downs of his business, it was a really wonderful experience to listen to him, how he worked his way up to such a successful photographer in his business, and he is a very clever business man too, I certainly learned a lot from his seminar. As for the seminar, well where to start? is the question.
I’m not a seminar junkie. I’m very cynical and somewhat skeptical when it comes to seminars, it takes a lot to get me to actually go to one as my usual feeling shortly after one begins is “Why did I waste my time coming here?”
Let me say that not only did I stay the entire day at this one I regret not being able to join you for dinner.
I have very much enjoyed the DVD, again a major accomplishment, as I’ve never yet viewed any photo DVD in its entirety.
It is also very timely for me as I am looking to relocate and purchase another home / office in NJ.
Needless to say my wife & I have found so much truly pertinent information in the DVD. Thank you.

As you know In the last couple of weeks I have been putting together our first 3rd party marketing campaign. in the mean time I have been preparing the price list and a few other things that need to be put in place to make this work along with watching to dvds and getting as much information that I can!
Last week I had a client into our studio for a pre consultation before there portrait shoot (The first Time I have done this). The shoot took place last sunday and the viewing was this afternoon, I must say I was very nervous going into this as this was my first time using the new price list and off course pricing, but it all went to plan and to cut a long story short they walked out the door spending $2235.00 on 11 images which has floored me, in a good way that is. So must say I'm going into this 3rd party campaign with a lot of confidence.

Our host from last year is on board again this year. We have gone from 14 gyms to 21 gyms. We expect to deliver about 2100 certificates. Every thing is progressing smoothly. For now. The good news is they asked me if their was anyone in Sydney Perth and Melbourne to do the same as what we do. So Peter Dawson, Grant and Suzanne Goldsmith and Bernie Griffiths are now on the Curves gym promotion. It was nice to share the work with these studios.

Thank you very much for your workshop. It has been most informative. I have scheduled couple of half-days this week to produce a business plan. I am also discussing locations with my wife (Mary-Jane) for a shared, or possibly, solo studio - very early planning stage. I am writing to you to say that you two have been one of the most genuine, open-hearted and down-to-earth people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. And because of who you are, you probably don't even recognise those qualities yourselves.
When I left your studio for the last time, I felt like I was leaving a close friend's house... I know that sounds silly (especially from a big boy). Even now, a few days later, I still feel sad that I will not be sharing a meal with you and joking about everything under the sun.

The seminar was really awesome and the hospitality equally. I got alot out of the 3rd party and could easily see the potential of the system.
Its great to see people like Tero and yourself doing so well at something that you guys love.
It was also great just to catch up with other photographers and see what everyone is doing.
We are going to run a number of Gift Certificate's with Hosts over the next 12 months.
So i will keep you guys up to date with how it all goes...
If you have another seminar next year i will probably come down again if anything just for the fresh air, fresh ideas and the food which was excellent and an extended stay....
